Westmore Association

Board of Directors Meeting

Attending: Lee Anderson, Bob Drew, Mary Drew, Greg Gallagher, Carroll Guitar, Martha McKay, Mari Harter, Vince Dotoli and Bill Hartford

Absent: Art Brooks and Dick Simpson

The meeting was called to order at 7:33 PM.

A motion by Greg Gallagher to accept the minutes of the June 29, 2006 meeting was seconded by Carroll Guitar and approved unanimously.

Greg Gallagher presented the Treasurer’s Report as of this date after distributing copies of the report to the BOD members. A motion to accept the report as presented was made by Carroll Guitar, seconded by Lee Anderson and approved unanimously.

Old Business:

Membership: Bob Drew reported that there are currently 216 member families. At the upcoming Annual meeting Carroll Guitar will take applications for new memberships.

Replacement of Directors and Officers: Vince Dotoli reported that Roger Canal has agreed to serve as a Director to replace Lee Anderson, who in turn will replace Greg Gallagher (who is leaving the Board) as Treasurer. Bill Hartford agreed to be a Board member for another three years while Bob Drew and Mary Drew agreed to serve as President and Clerk for one more year.

Beautification: Bob Drew reports that we will have two more bids on preparing and planting perennials in the triangle at the junction of Hinton Hill Road and VT 5A. The first bid is in at just under $3800 and was made by Roots and Shoots. Mari Harter suggested that we instead find volunteers to do the entire job ourselves; at least someone to do the prep work (scraping out and filling in) instead of using a landscaper. Vince Dotoli recommended Houghton’s to supply the plants. Bob Drew, Mari Harter and Deborah Simpson will meet tomorrow, July 21, to discuss options.

Milfoil: In Dick Simpson’s absence, Bob Drew reported that the Town had accepted a contract with Jeremy Leblanc who has hired three other divers. Jeremy completed a survey of the lake’s milfoil problem last Monday, July 17, and started to pull the following day. At this juncture we are two weeks behind schedule.

Scholarships: Dick Simpson is the new Chairman of the Scholarship Committee. Vince Dotoli mentioned that Leon Feerick would more than likely apply for a scholarship this year, in addition to the other two candidates. The BOD will discuss this at the August BOD meeting.

New Business:

Thank-yous to $50+ members: One of the Membership Committee members misunderstood what she was to tell any member who had paid $50 or more to join this year. Instead of thanking them she instead asked for more money. Bob Drew will follow up with a personal card to these generous contributors, apologizing for the misunderstanding. Greg Gallagher will express a general thank-you to all members at the Annual meeting when he gives his Treasurer’s report.

Green Mountain Follies: Bob Drew reported that Arts & Entertainment Committee has committed the Association to paying two of the scheduled performers $100 to perform at this years function and a student $50 who is going to be the Stage Manager for the show. The BOD agreed that we had to now go along with the commitment made even though permission had not asked of the Board to make these offers; this is the first time in memory that we will have paid a performer since we are using all the monies earned to give out scholarships.

The BOD agreed to a asking for suggested donation of $7 for admission with kids under ten admitted free

Bob asked each BOD member to bring a couple dozen cookies to the event for refreshments and requested that the Board members help set up and take down the chairs. Wayne French has agreed to collect the donations at the door. In addition, there will be a table to sign up new members and sell our new Willoughby Lake Guides and maps.

Mari Harter will submit an article about the Follies to the Chronicle and Newport papers the week before the Follies.

Lee Anderson gave Bob Drew copies of the resolution by the Vermont League of Cities and Towns on the issue of changing load limits for trucks on the Interstate highways to at least match the highest limits on Vermont’s highways.

Annual Meeting: Scheduled for Thursday, July 27, at 6:00 PM at the Fellowship Hall. Bob Drew went over the agenda for comments by the BOD.

The BOD members will get together and set up the tables and chairs at 9:00 AM that day and take them down after the meeting.

There will be a table in the hall for signing up new members (manned by Carroll Guitar) and a table for selling Guides and maps (manned by Anne and Arthur Brooks. Tables for filling out name tags will also be available just inside the main room.

Bob Drew reported that he and Dick Simpson will be attending this year’s annual meeting of the Vermont Federation of Lakes & Ponds in Montpelier this coming Monday; anyone else interested in going should let him know.

Mari Harter spoke about a wine and cheese occasion previously held by the Association at which members from around the Lake displayed historical pictures from their family archives; it was a well attended function back then. After some discussion Bill Hartford volunteered to arrange another such function either this year or next; hopefully Dick Simpson will help Bill out on this project.

The next BOD meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 17, at 7:30 at the Town Clerk’s Office. Please mark your calendars now!

Meeting adjourned at 9:10 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Mary Drew, Clerk
