Westmore Association

Annual Meeting

The meeting was called to order at 7:15 PM

Wayne French presented a tribute to Art Brown, who had served as Treasurer of the Association for 8 years, a Town Lister for 17 years and Treasurer of the Westmore Church. This was followed by a moment of silence in his memory.

Westmore Fire Department Raffle: Wayne French drew the winning tickets and Kimball Johnson announced the names of the winners of the prizes.

By-Law changes: Dick Simpson made a motion to accept the proposed by-law changes as printed, was seconded by Bruce Wheeler and passed by the membership.

Beautification Committee: Debra Simpson announced that the 6th annual Boat Parade was a success this year with 8 boats entered and expressed her thanks to all the participants in this event. Debra requests the members to submit ideas for new themes for future parades. A theme for the 2006 parade will be chosen and published in the Fall Newsletter.

North Beach Committee: Carl Brinck was absent – no report.

Membership Committee: Bob Drew reported that as of tonight, 244 families have joined and he hopes another 80-90 more will join this summer. Bob expressed his thanks to the members for their generous contributions this year.

Water Quality Committee: Art Brooks reported that the water quality is good to date. Art, Bill Julian and Bob Eichler (Town Health Officer) have submitted a sample from the North Beach area to the State for testing since June. All had good reports returned except for one last week, which had been corrected by this week. Art then showed a slide that graphed the water quality over time, including the pH, CO2 content and temperature variations.

Milfoil Committee: Jerry Saindon reported that the Milfoil Project continues. The North Beach area has been worked on and up the East side back to the Fishing Access. There is a problem with milfoil at Gray Rock. The area by Mountain Lake cottages looks good. Jerry again stated a need for volunteers in kayaks to pick up the floaters around the barge.

Trails and Wildlife Committee: Paul Moffat reported that the Town Forest project is completed. The Green Mountain Club, NE Section, has adopted most of our trails and cares for them. Trail maps are available and free of charge in all stores.

Nominating Committee: Dick Simpson presented the proposed slate of new Directors and Officers. For Director: Martha McKay and Arthur Brooks to serve their 2nd 3-year term and Carroll Guitar and Lee Anderson to serve their 1st 3-year term. Officers: Bob Drew, President; Art Brooks, Vice-President; Greg Gallagher, Treasurer; Mary Drew, Clerk. There were no nominations from the audience. A motion was made by Mary McLellan to close the nominations and vote on the slate as presented. The motion was seconded and passed.

New Business: Dick Simpson reported that he had attended a Select Board meeting and that taxes would go up 7% for residents and 8% for non-residents. The listers have requested a re-appraisal of properties for next year, which would be only 3 years after that last appraisal. Art French from the audience stated that the Listers had been ordered by the State to have the re-appraisal.

o Announcements were made of upcoming events in Westmore.

o Gail Brown announced that the new Westmore Association maps were available that night in the back of the hall and they are also available at the Town Clerk’s office and the local stores.

Wayne French turned the meeting over to Bob Drew, who gave a tribute to Wayne’s many years of contribution to the Association and the community and then presented a gift to Wayne from the Association in appreciation of his service.

Wayne expressed his thanks to the Association for the gift and then asked Art Brooks to introduce the evening’s speaker.

Meeting adjourned at 7:50PM.

Respectfully submitted – Mary Drew, Clerk
