June 23, 2005
Westmore Association
Board of Directors Meeting
Attending: Wayne French, Vince Dotoli, Bob Drew, Mary Drew, Mari Harter, Dick
Simpson, Art Brooks, Greg Gallagher, Martha McKay
Absent: Bill Hartford
Guest: Lee Anderson
The meeting was called to order at 7:35 PM.
A motion by Art Brooks to accept the minutes of the September 8,
2004, BOD meeting was seconded by Bob Drew and approved unanimously.
Wayne French presented the Treasurer’s Report for Sept 8, 2004 to
June 23, 2005. This report included the breakdown of returns from the
Fall and Spring Newsletters and letters to the balance of people on the
Town List. A motion by Greg Gallagher to accept the Treasurer’s Report
as presented was seconded by Dick Simpson and approved unanimously.
Regarding the BOD term periods, Art Brooks and Martha McKay’s terms
expire in July, 2005. They are both willing to serve an additional
3-year term. Lee Anderson was invited by Wayne to observe this meeting
and is now also willing to serve a 3-year term. Bob Cummings expressed
his interest in joining the BOD to Wayne, who will invite him as a guest
to the next BOD meeting. The Nominating Committee, consisting of Art
Brooks, Bob Drew and Dick Simpson, will present candidates for 2 BOD
positions at the next BOD meeting. For the new year starting in August,
the offices of Treasurer and Vice-President also need to be filled from
the BOD.
By-Law changes: In addition to the suggested amendments presented and
reviewed at the 07/05/04 BOD meeting, Wayne recommended that because the
local businesses pay to advertise on the Willoughby Map, the wording of
ARTICLE 11 SECTION 3: Membership Dues should be changed to "Annual dues
shall be determined by the B.O.D."
Wayne reported that we have two applications for Student Scholarships
this year. The BOD will review the Association’s expenses at the next
meeting and will then decide the amount we will provide for the
Scholarships.
A motion by Vince Dotoli for the Association to donate $300.00 to the
Red Cross Swimming Program was seconded by Art Brooks and passed
unanimously.
Dick Simpson reported that a diving crew for the Milfoil Project has
been hired and they hope to begin the Project June 24, depending on the
water temperature.
Art Brooks reported for the Water Quality Committee that he and Bill
Julian obtained 3 samples of water from the North Beach area last year
weekly that they sent by official courier to the state laboratory for
testing. The state would continue to do E. coli counts from 3 samples
per week, but since the cost is $16 per sample, Art suggested that the
Association approach the Selectmen and request that the Town pays for
testing of water from the North Beach. Alternatively, fewer samples
could be taking but that raises a risk of missing a surge in E. coli
counts.
Wayne requested any suggestions for a program for the Annual Meeting
on Thursday, July 28. As a result of Mari Harter’s suggestion, Art
Brooks will check for the availability of an appropriate speaker from
the Fairbanks Museum.
Vince Dotoli reported that, according to a loon biologist, the loons
might be nesting on docks and near beaches this year. We all need to be
aware and notify Vince if we observe this so that signs of warning can
be placed to protect the loons.
The next BOD meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 11, at 7:30 PM.
Meeting adjourned at 9:07 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Mary Drew, Clerk
