Westmore Association
Board of Directors Meeting
September 23, 2006
Attending: Lee Anderson, Art Brooks, Vince Dotoli, Bob Drew, Mary Drew, Carroll Guitar and Dick Simpson,
Absent: Mari Harter, Martha McKay, Bill Hartford, Roger Canal
Guest: Wayne French
The meeting was called to order at 10:10 AM
A motion by Dick Simpson to accept the minutes as written of the August 16 meeting was seconded by Carroll Guitar and approved unanimously.
Lee Anderson presented the Treasurer’s Report after distributing copies to the BOD. The report includes transactions from August 1, 2005, to September 23, 2006. A motion by Dick Simpson to accept the report as presented was seconded by Art Brooks and approved unanimously.
Old Business:
Membership: Bob Drew announced that Howland Swift has agreed to be Chairman of the Membership Committee and requested that Wayne French pick up the mail for the Association this winter and send the new memberships to Howland and the money to Lee Anderson. Wayne can get mailing labels to be used for the next issue of "Reflections" from Howland. Howland has already sent out membership reminders to previous members who have not renewed their membership for this year.
Beautification: Bob Drew states that another attempt will be made to
redo the wildflower garden at the intersection of Rtes 5A and 16 at the
North End. It will be tilled and planted in the spring, 2007.
The perennials garden proposed for the triangle at 5A and Hinton Hill
Road is on hold pending a State permit. It is unreasonable to proceed
without the permit due to liability issues. "Roots and Shoots" is
already booked for the spring, 2007, so we are seeking a new landscaper
so planting can proceed in the spring.
Scholarships: Dick Simpson said that Jeremy LeBlanc had come to him during the last couple of weeks requesting a repeat of last year’s scholarship money; Dick presented to the BOD a copy of Jeremy’s transcript. A motion by Vince Dotoli was made to give this fifth, $500 scholarship which was seconded by Carroll Guitar and approved unanimously.
Milfoil: Dick Simpson reports that Jeremy LeBlanc and his crew of 3
divers harvested 632.5 barrels of milfoil this summer. Jeremy hopes his
contract with the Town will be renewed for next year and he can get
started on the project earlier next summer.
Art Brooks and others expressed the hope that the town will seek
competitive bids early enough so that a contract can be signed in time
to begin the harvest earlier than in 2006; Vince Dotoli felt sure that
that would not be a problem.
Director’s Liability Insurance: Dick Simpson reported that he was
unable to address this yet with the Select Board. Dick plans to try
again.
New Business:
Safety at the Fishing Access: Bob Drew reported that the photos he
took of the congested Access area last summer to Dale Perron of the
Highway Department a couple of months ago and had proposed at that time
that a blinker light be installed at both approaches to the Access on 5A
and the speed limit be reduced to 25 MPH in this area. Mr. Perron agreed
to pass this request on to the Highway Safety Department and they would
be in touch with the Town about a decision (which they have now done).
"Reflections": Wayne French requested reports from Dick Simpson on
the Milfoil Project and Deborah Simpson on Beautification. Wayne has
photos from the Variety Show and plans to get more from Bill McGuire.
Art Brooks will submit a report on Water Quality. The BOD recommended
doing a profile of Steve Tanner.
Speakers for the 2007 Annual Meeting: Bob Drew reported that Susan
Warren has committed to speaking on Shorefront Reclamation and Ray
Richer, wildlife photographer, will give a PowerPoint presentation that
depicts how successful with bringing back wildlife has been due to his
own his own reclamation of property his family bought on Joe’s Pond.
Green Mountain Follies: Stan Busby has indicated that he will not
produce the Follies next year. Therefore, Bob Drew and Steve Tanner have
chosen Thursday, August 2, 2007, for the event and are currently trying
to get commitments from a number of popular acts. The Honeymooners have
been contacted and it looks like they will accept.
Suggestions for other Association activities: Roger Canal has in he
past expressed a willingness to put together a Golf tournament again;
Art Brooks suggested that it be held at the new golf course on Hinton
Hill since it was located in Westmore.
Another suggestion was to have a picnic for members at the park across
from the church.
Meeting adjourned at 11:25 AM
Respectfully submitted,
